How to Develop Footwork Like Aaron Rodgers

There's no doubt that Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is one of the best in the business. His footwork is a big part of what makes him so successful, and it's something that all quarterbacks can work on to improve their game. In this post, we'll take a look at some of the best tips and tricks that make a quarterback’s footwork so effective, and how you can start incorporating these techniques into your own game. So if you're looking to take your quarterback play to the next level, keep reading!

1. Practice on a daily basis.

You should work on your drops every day. In fact, even if you're short on time, it's a good idea to spend at least fifteen minutes practicing. It doesn’t seem like much, but fifteen minutes a day compounds over time.

2. Work on lateral movement and agility.

As a quarterback, lateral movement and agility are key to your success in the pocket. Practice making quick movements side to side while keeping your eyes up, simulating eyes downfield scanning the defensive secondary. Simple line hops or ladder drills are perfect.

3. Find a training partner to help push your limits.

A good way to push your limits is by finding a training partner that you can work with. Working out with someone else will keep you motivated and focused on getting better, just like the small group training sessions that we offer twice a week at Lowcountry QB.

4. Get a jump rope! It’s simple, but not easy.

One of the best ways to improve your footwork is jumping rope. Believe it or not, our QB group did a jump rope workout 3x a week during the summer, and it paid off. If you don't have a rope, grab one off Amazon for about $14.

5. Be mentally tough - visualize success before each rep.

Some studies show that visualization increases performance. Right before you're about to perform a rep of whatever footwork drill you choose, picture yourself doing it successfully – this will give you confidence when the time comes down the road when it matters.

6. Find a QB Coach that you trust and is knowledgeable about the sport.

You’re only as good as your coach, so it's important to find one that is experienced and knows what they're doing. Building a great relationship with an experienced coach will take you far on your journey to perfecting your craft as a QB.

There you have it, follow those easy steps to improve your footwork. Maybe one day you’ll be a Super Bowl champion and NFL MVP too. We are here to help you get there - let us know how we can help!

Until next time -
